Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
Uwe Stilla was born in Cologne, Germany, in 1957. He received the Diploma (Dipl.-Ing.) degree in communications engineering from University of Paderborn, Germany, an additional Diploma (Dipl.-Ing.) in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. (Doctor of Engineering) degree in electrical engineering (pattern recognition) from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1980, 1987, and 1993, respectively. From 1987 to 1990, he was with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Karlsruhe, and from 1990 to 2004, with the Institute of Optronics and Pattern Recognition (FGAN-FOM, now Fraunhofer IOSB, Ettlingen). Since 2004 Uwe Stilla is Professor at Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany.
Univ.-Prof. i.R. Dr.-Ing. Uwe M. Stilla was head of the Unit "Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing" at the TUM Department of Aerospace and Geodesy. He was the Vice Dean (2008-2013) of the TUM Department of Civil Engineering and Geodesy and additionally the Dean of Studies (2005-2016). From 2012 to 2016 he was Vice President and from 2016 to 2020 President of the German Society for Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Geoinformation (DGPF). From 2004 to 2022 he holds the chair of multiple working groups of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), last: Inter Commisson Working Group ICWG II/III 'Pattern Analysis in Remote Sensing'. He is principal investigator of the International Graduate School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE), member of the Scientific Board of German Commission of Geodesy (DGK), and Vice Chairman of Commission for Geodesy and Glaciology (KEG) of the Bavarian Academy of Science and Humanities (BAdW). His research focuses on image analysis in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing. He organized and co-organized many conferences and workshops (ISPRS, IEEE, IAPR) and published more than 500 scientific contributions.
